Agri Next Level Foundation has been established in 2014 to structure the initiatives of the founders concerning agricultural development in less developed countries or areas. The founding members have many years of experience in implementing and/or advising in development projects, for example in Kenya, Ethiopia and Nigeria, and have lived, worked or studied in these countries.
In many developing countries the inhabitants consists for two thirds of small scale farmers. A large part of them are just (not) able to make themselves a living. They work with simple means on small plots and are hindered by extreme climate conditions (droughts and heavy rains) and do not have enough fertilizer or perticides to their disposal. Soils do get exhausted and infertile and are washed away by erosion. This results in production quantities per hectare of less than 10% of what can be reached in more developed countries or areas, and in degradation of the living area.
The expected increase of the world population makes it necessary to increase the global production and availability of food as well. For example, it is predicted that the population of Africa will double till approximately 1.8 billion people in 2050. Most of these people will reside in large urban areas and thus become dependant on farmers in their own country.
Here opportunities can be found for many farmers. Not only in creating their own means in subsistence but also in feeding other people. With some small help, access to means, training in improved agricultural methods, and their own centuries old knowledge concering their soils, environment and climate, small farmers will be able to produce more food in a sustainable way. Increased production and a good market means an increase in income as well and will lead to a better wellbeing.
AgriNextLevel is a foundation for sustainable development in rural areas. Our target group consists of people in developing countries or areas, who depend on agriculture and natural resources, for their food supply, financial income and wellbeing. However, due to several reasons their efforts are limited.
Through creating more reliable opportunities, sharing of knowlegde, training in skills and introduction of improved technologies, we like to enable them to lift themselves on a higher level concerning agricultural production, income and welfare. And to enable them to live in a sustainable environment.
The role of the foundation is limited to fund raising, advising, capacity building in management, and monitoring. Submission and implementation of project is in the hands of the target groups themselves or through local organisations, because we believe that they have the key to success in their own hands.
